YOU TOOK THE OBJECTIVE MEASURES
NOW WHAT?
A complex case walks in, and the questions start:
→ Where do I even start with this patient?
→ Am I pushing too hard, or being too conservative?
→ Are they actually ready for the next step, or just 12 weeks out?
→ What do I do when they don't fit the protocol?
So you lean on timelines and hope your patient is ready. And there are a few diagnoses you quietly avoid, like tennis elbow or ACLs, because you've never felt confident with them.
You have plenty of information from school and textbooks. What's missing is a way to make the decision.
They don't teach
this part in school
School
School gave you goniometry, special tests, and a mountain of research,
with no system for turning it into a plan.
CEU Courses
CEU courses cost $700 to $1000 each and hand you one more tool,
without showing you which patients it's for.
Protocols
And protocols tell you what to do for one diagnosis,
until a patient doesn't follow the script.
Whether you graduated last spring or you're eight years in, clinical decision making is the skill nobody walks you through.
What you need is one framework for deciding what comes next, with any patient. That's the PRO Method.
The PRO Method One framework for every patient who walks through your door
Every patient fits into a phase. Once you know the phase, you know the next step.
Place your patient in a phase based on how they present. Each phase tells you its purpose, the criteria to pass, and which exercises to prioritize. When they pass, they move to the next phase until they reach their goal.
Protect
Calm things down and protect what was injured or repaired. Manage pain and swelling, start getting range of motion back, and avoid doing too much while tissue heals.
Restore
Bring back normal movement. Walking, reaching overhead, and stair negotiation without compensating.
Overload
Build capacity for your patient's goal with progressive strengthening, plyometric training, and sport specific movements in order to prepare them for return to sport.
You stop when your patient reaches their goal, whether that's playing with their kids or getting back on the field.
JOIN THE CHALLENGEOne Framework.
Any Diagnosis. Any Timeline.
Same surgery. Same timeline. Different phases of rehab.
These six patients are all eight months post-ACL reconstruction, yet they range from protection to return to sport.
Why? Because time since surgery doesn't determine readiness. Their presentation, functional abilities, and objective criteria guide what comes next.
The PRO Method simplifies complex rehab decisions.
Protect
What needs to be protected, and what impairments need to be addressed before progressing?
Restore
What movement, strength, and functional deficits need to be restored?
Overload
What type of loading does this patient need to build capacity for their specific goals?
Whether you're treating a tendinopathy, muscle strain, or post-op patient, the framework stays the same. The specific phases, interventions, and progression criteria adapt to the diagnosis.
